Brilliant Gems

Love barely begins to describe my affection for jewelry. So how do I create a guilt-free and ethical collection without sacrificing the beauty? First, I research. I no longer buy cheap jewels at the Fashion District in downtown, nor am I interested in just any diamond, but the right conflict-free kind. One site I adore is Brilliant Earth.

Brilliant Earth carries ethically sourced sapphires from Australia and Africa with recycled platinum and gold. They utilize pure sources and use socially responsible practices for their collections. Another great reason to shop here is that 5% of the proceeds benefit communities by sponsoring education and health reforms in African states that have been brutally effected by the unethical jewelry industry.

I am in love with the gold Double Marquise Earrings with Diamonds. The hammered shapes define subtle elegance with fierce attitude. Each earring has one .01 carat conflict-free diamond. $690

I also am enthralled by the Digger’s Pendant, which has an imprint of the palm of a diamond digger on the silver. In the center is a teardrop cutout with a lone conflict-free diamond sitting in the opening. There is so much meaning in this pendant, and carrying it is a reminder of the struggles of diamond diggers in Africa that have faced violence and death. $130
