Breakfast Rocks!

Having something substantial in the morning can get you geared up for the hectic day ahead of you.
Everyone knows that having a breakfast in the morning is the most important meal of the day, but we sometimes forget. Busy lifestyles and hectic schedules may get in the way of actually doing it. However, it can be done. I always try to eat within half an hour of waking up to jumpstart my body and give it the energy it needs for the day ahead of me. Not only do I get sufficient energy, I also get my digestive system going, which increases metabolism. The choices are endless, and making a healthy choice is even easier since it’s so simple. I always try to have a whole grain starch with a protein. The whole grain starch provides quick energy, and the protein is slower to digest, so it keeps me satisfied for a few more hours than a sugary donut ever will. Here are some great options for a quick breakfast that won’t leave you starving two hours later.
- 1 cup plain oatmeal (look for the whole oat ones, never the sugary instant ones) with ¼ cup diced fruit with a dash of cinnamon, with a glass of soy milk (milk counts as a protein source)
- 1 slice whole grain bread with organic peanut butter and sliced bananas
- 1 cup high-fiber cereal with soy milk
- 1 slice whole grain English muffin with 1 sunny-side up egg
- 1 cup plain nonfat yogurt (I love the Greek kind that is very tart) with fresh or frozen berries.
- Breakfast smoothie, made up of 1 cup plain nonfat yogurt, ½ cup frozen berries, 1 frozen banana, and 2 tbsp ground flaxseed
- ½ whole grain bagel with lowfat cream cheese
