sustainablelife4 The Sustainable Life

Sustainability has been the hot “thing” recently, capturing the imagination of inventors and politicians alike.  New cars tout their increasing fuel efficiency while lowering their carbon emissions and buildings continue to evolve, integrating natural ventilation and lighting back into our workspaces.  There is something to be said about the movement, and certainly it is a worthy one, but we must strive to avoid this consumerist approach to sustainability, and start integrating it into our everyday lives.  Innovative technologies that require less and less energy still require energy, much of which is provided by coal-fired power plants and hydro-electric dams that cause massive ecological changes to the surrounding areas.  Human power, and by extension, our lives should become the focal point of our sustainable approach. Walking to a store, trading an hour of TV for an hour of yoga can ultimately help our environment more than just by saving energy — it can enlighten us to the various opportunities to continuously help our planet.

My articles featured on The Conscious Snob will encompass everything from my own personal experiences as an architect to the newest and best sustainable technologies that will help us live a more conscious and sustainable life.  Until next time, keep living the life.
