Why Bother With Toner?

Is that extra step between cleansing and moisturizing really that important? For those of you in doubt, here’s why adding toner to your routine can make your skin healthier and you happier.

There are several benefits to using facial toners. No, they won’t tighten your skin or tone your cheekbones — but they will help restore your skin to its normal pH level. This is especially important if you use soap containing alkaline, which generally increases your skin’s pH level. As for those of you who like cleansers containing natural exfoliants (i.e. apricot scrubs), using toner can also help reduce the irritation left behind by over-sloughed skin.

Depending upon your toner, you may find that it can help remove any remaining dirt or residue that your makeup remover didn’t catch, hydrate your pores for a fresher feel, and possibly even add an extra dose of antioxidants to your facial pampering!

One particular toner that I especially enjoy using is the Kinerase Hydrating Antioxidant Mist. I love spraying the toner directly onto my face and patting the mist around evenly (if you’re not as lazy as me, you can opt to use the cotton ball!). On afternoons when I’m especially tired or haggard, I spray the mist as a refresher and hydrator. It’s fast, light-feeling, and doesn’t make me feel like I’m dousing my skin with too many chemicals.

Do you have a favorite toner? We’d love to hear about it!
