A surprise to many is that aging actually starts during our mid-twenties.  It’s a time when most people are too caught up in their careers and the buzz of finally being young and financially independent  to concern themselves with trivial matters like wrinkles and degenerating skin cells.  But if you don’t over look this simple fact, in a couple of years, 28 could still mean you look like you’re 25.  Here are our top five suggestions to help you avoid premature aging and to stay youthful and beautiful at any age.

(1) Protect yourself from the sun. As much as we love sunbathing and taking short strolls on a sunny day - we have to remember that the sun’s harmful rays can cause damage and discoloration to our skin.  The best way to ensure that your skin is protected is to wear sunscreen before you venture out.  Sunscreen protection changes depending upon the intensity of the sun and the length of time you’ll be exposed — so remember to reapply accordingly.

(2) Exercise your anti-age. In addition to increasing our metabolisms and helping us stay physically fit, exercising also keeps our skin firm and improves our skin’s elasticity.  The increased blood circulation ensures that our skin cells are getting proper nutrients to stay strong and healthy.  So find an activity or sport that you love and start exercising your natural anti-age.

(3) Do as your mother advised and eat a balanced meal. Eating a balanced meal means you’re getting the proper nutrients and vitamins to help you energize your body as well as rejuvenate your skin.  Getting a proper dose of vitamin C, vitamin E and other antioxidants can protect your cells from free radicals and repair damaged skin cells.  You can find vitamin C in oranges, broccoli, and spinach; vitamin E in avocados, peanut butter, and raw nuts.  Berries are also a wonderful source of antioxidants.

(4) Exfoliate your dead skin. Exfoliating allows dead skin cells on the outermost surface of our skin to slough off, yielding a surface of new skin cells.  Using a gentle face exfoliant twice a week can prompt new collagen production as well as enhance your skin tone.

(5) Hydrate with H20. It’s increasingly important to properly hydrate ourselves.  Drinking 8 cups of water each day helps the body flush out toxins and waste from our cells and also ensures that our cells stay hydrated and elastic.  This is probably the easiest and least expensive anti-aging practice — so be sure to drink up!
