Internship Opportunity

The Conscious Snob (www.theconscioussnob.com) is seeking a journalist or writer intern interested in participating in a brand new, unique and exciting web project on a part-time basis. Creativity and ability to compose interesting articles are two of the main requirements for this exciting internship opportunity. The selected intern is responsible for all aspects of the web content: from drafting unique article content to designing the final interface copy. The role sets the standard by which all user content on the site meets the needs of our readers and is integral in sustaining the daily flow of the website. The intern must understand the business objectives and the user needs as well as The Conscious Snob’s overall strategy and business plan.

Candidates must be able to work from home and be available to quickly turn around time-sensitive articles while also handling long-term assignments.  An open mind to constructive criticism is essential.  Hours are flexible, but candidates must be able to work a minimum of 10 hours or contribute 3 articles per week.

Requirements:

• Journalism experience preferable but will consider passionate writers.

• Well-organized and Internet savvy.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skill
• Ability to self-motivate, set own agenda, and offer sharp criticism.

• Interest or experience writing book reviews, restaurant reviews, product critiques.

• Ability to employ a strong, smart, “snobby” yet witty approach in writing.

• Knowledge of general website layout and editing multiple articles.

• Ability to approach writing from a user’s perspective.

• Ability to edit content, proofread, and critique others’ work.

• Should be results-oriented and focused on developing content for the client/customer.

• Strong team player.

Tasks:

• Compose new articles and edit existing articles.

• Provide insightful opinion on the latest beauty products, fashion trends, books, etc. while taking a conscious approach and smart attitude.

• Conduct research on the Internet and communicate with merchant vendors.

• Develop a strong and interesting style of writing consistent with existing articles.

• Work with SEO, graphic designers and photographers to develop overall content strategy that will advance the company’s merchandising, business, and marketing objectives.

• Review, edit and approve existing copy written by other writers.

Benefits:

This is an unpaid internship, student credit available upon request. Each intern will have a direct supervisor who will provide detailed editing feedback. Candidates will work in a real-world online publishing environment and will see their work published on The Conscious Snob. This is a great opportunity to improve writing skills and to build a work portfolio. A letter of recommendation will be provided at the completion of the internship.
